Armageddon

I quote.
--------------------------------------------

"In the long run, he's committing suicide," said the driver. "Seems like the only kind of job an American can get these days is committing suicide in some way."
"Good point," said Trout.

- Vonnegut, Kurt. Breakfast of Champions. New
York: Deltacorte Press, 1973.

--------------------------------------------

Think hard about that one.

He's just saying that so many jobs that people work at everyday are harming the planet in some way. Like driving a vehicle releases poisonous gases into the atmosphere, and more and more earth is being turned into pavement so those vehicles can move. People working in factories are producing chemicals (intended or as a cause of something else.) Manufacturers are making metals and such that could be being used in war...etc. Along those lines. It just made me really think about how destructive humanity is, and how even if something is being done for a good reason it probably still has its downsides that we don't spend a lot of time thinking about.
Vonnegut is a mastermind.
